PTR & PTC Beginner Tutorial Step 2
|
Step 2
Now that you have some basic Computer Security started, there is one more basic, for the Performance of your Computer.
Got Enough
Memory? Bet You'll Need More!
Your Computer only has a Certain Amount of memory Resources (Ram). Adding peripherals, like webcams, USB hard drives, and complex Internet pages, all take memory. Watching DVD movies, or watching videos on the web, or playing PC based games demand increased memory. The best time to add more memory is when you buy your system, butin the meantime you can use whats called a Ram
Optimizer Program, that runs in the
background and cleans your Ram every so often (User Selectable) to keep your system operating smoothly. If there is 512 Megs of Ram (XP), 256 (ME, 98) or less on Your Computer, it is Probably
Running Slow when you Open more than 2-3 Files/Programs.
Windows XP Requires at Least 256 Megs, ME, and 98 Require 128, but that is Really The BARE MINIMUM Needed to keep the System Running. If you play Computer Games, Rip CD's, Backup or Watch Your Movies, you have probably noticed your computer running slow and You have to shut programs off in order to use any of those type Programs.
The single most Important Improvement You can do to your computer is Increasing the amount of Installed Ram. The Good and The Bad of it is, Ram isn't cheap, either to buy, or to have installed, although most Stores that sell Ram will also Install it for a Fairly Reasonable Price at the Time of Purchase. Thats the Bad, the Good is that if you are reasonably
Mechanically Inclined, (You Can Remove and/or Install A Ceiling Fan (with a Light Kit Included), or 3 Way Switch, for Example), you could probably install ram Yourself. Now I Must Warn You that you could VERY Easily FRY/TOAST your COMPLETE Computer, and Possibly Shock or Electrocute yourself, If You Are Not EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS, Of Both STATIC ELECTRICITY, and ELECTRICITY. Like Water, They Are ANY Computer/Electrical Device's WORST ENEMY, and Dangerous to People as well. They are VERY HAZARDOUS to Both, so Require Carefull Handling And Grounding Of Both Yourself and Your Computer. If any part of this sounds strange to you, Please consult a Computer service Person you trust.
